Dedication’s what you need; if you wanna be a record breaker

As a kid I used to love the late, great Roy Castle and Norris McWhirter’s exploits on Record Breakers – that was until Cheryl Baker and Kris Akabusi came along and ruined it.

Record Breakers logoIn a nice creative PR stunt, maybe even inspired by good old Roy and his trumpet, the peeps at Mozilla are attempting to set their own world record for the ‘most software downloads in 24 hours’ – as a means to promote the launch of its Firefox 3 browser. Now promoting a browser must be pretty tough so hats off to them on their creativity.

Dubbed ‘Download Day’ Mozilla is asking us to pledge our commitment to downloading the software on the as yet unannounced date. So far they’ve had 272,591 pledges (at the time of writing) from all around the world. Even 18 people in Burkina Faso and 8 people in the Solomon Islands have made the effort.

Firefox logoWe’re all fans of the Firefox browser here at EML, admittedly this is largely because we’re all on MACs and it’s the only browser that seems to work properly, but I like to think that if I had a choice I’d still use Firefox. After I’ve checked with the IT department (always best to check in order to avoid any slapped wrists) I’ll certainly be pledging my support.
